How did you get into pediatrics?

How did you get into pediatrics?
Working with children is such a privilege – you get to impact someone’s life during their most formative years. As a new mother, I’m also so excited to support families through the crazy but rewarding process of parenting. I also love that pediatrics applies scientific thought to children’s upbringing to ensure the best outcomes. Finally, children are just fun!

Where did you grow up?
The Netherlands (Eindhoven, Leiden, Groningen).

Where do you live?
Battery Park City.

What do you enjoy most about working in your neighborhood office?
I live close to the Tribeca office, and I am so excited to provide care to my neighbors. I have met other parents in the area and found them to be brilliant, compassionate, and dedicated people – I am thrilled to work with them.

What keeps you motivated?
My little patients and their families!

What do you do for fun?
Spending time with my daughter – she grows so quickly!

How did you get into pediatrics?
I have wanted to work in pediatrics for as long as I could remember. My first volunteer position at a pediatric occupational therapy center only reinforced my interest in the field. Kids have such an amazing outlook on life, which makes work that much more rewarding!

Where do you live?
East Harlem, NYC.

What are you looking forward to in your neighborhood office?
I love the families and the patients! Having grown up in NYC myself, it’s a fun reminder of my childhood.

What keeps you motivated?
The ever-changing field of pediatrics keeps me on my toes to learn more and be the best practitioner I can be!

What do you do for fun?
I am a huge foodie! So I love trying new restaurants and cooking. I also love working out, reading, and spending time with my family and friends.

How did you get into pediatrics?
I think a combination of things helped to shape my interest in pediatrics. Growing up, I spent a lot of time with my dad at his dental practice. I also babysat and worked as a camp counselor. I can’t remember exactly when I realized it, but eventually I realized the importance of childhood. Pediatrics just felt like a natural choice for me.

Where did you grow up?
Columbia, Maryland.

Where do you live?
Brooklyn.

What do you enjoy most about working in your neighborhood office?
Helping busy parents raise their children to be healthy and whole, inside and out.

What keeps you motivated?
Knowing that what I do has an everlasting impact.

What do you do for fun?
I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I also knit, cook, sing, paint, and take photographs.

Edith McCarthy, MD

How did you get into pediatrics?
During my residency and neonatology fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, the work of caring for fragile newborns, and advocating for their safety through the Child Protection team, showed me how profoundly pediatric medicine can shape a child’s life. Those experiences cemented my commitment to pediatrics and neonatology.

What do you look forward to most about working in your neighborhood office?
It is an honor for me to become part of the Tribeca Pediatrics team, as I have longstanding respect and admiration for its founder, Dr Michel Cohen, and his approach to pediatric care. I am excited to get to know the staff at the Hastings-on-Hudson location, and I am thrilled to be working in such a beautiful environment. I hope to get to know the families as quickly as possible and become part of the community. In addition, my husband and I look forward to relocating to the area in the near future.

What keeps you motivated?
I love seeing babies thrive and kids growing and developing. I also enjoy building relationships with parents, so that they can feel comfortable and confident in their child’s care.

What do you do for fun?
My husband and I love music, so we often go to hear live music and we also are performers. We sing together, and my husband plays guitar. In addition, I enjoy taking Pilates and dance class when I have time

How did you get into pediatrics?
Working with children has always been a passion of mine. Children embody all of the characteristics that I admire. They are kindhearted, energetic, and genuine. At a young age, I worked with and cared for the children in my church and was able to establish myself as a mentor to some of the youth in my community. This life-long dedication to ensuring the wellbeing of children gives me a strong sense of purpose and continues to fuel my already strong desire to advocate for them in every way possible.

How did you get into pediatrics?
During medical school there were so many super interesting areas, it seemed very difficult for me to decide on one. But once I rotated in pediatrics, I knew that this is what I really love! Kids are just amazing: So tough, honest, straightforward and always trying to make everything fun! Helping kids stay healthy and happy is so rewarding!

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a small town close to Duesseldorf in Germany.

Where do you live?
On the Upper West Side of Manhattan. I love NYC!

What do you enjoy most about working in Harlem?
Our amazing team (shoutout to our wonderful medical assistants) and of course all the super nice families in Harlem!

What keeps you motivated?
The kids! They deserve the best, and that’s what I’m working hard for.

What do you do for fun?
Hang out with my family, cook, travel and all kinds of hands-on projects.
