Spring has officially sprung, and kids are ready to get outside! This April, we’re bringing you the very best that the five boroughs, New Jersey, Long Island, and Westchester have to offer for kids of all ages, as we gear up for spring break at the end of the month!
From Earth Day celebrations, to tulip festivals, poetry nights, art classes, and more, there is so much to do and see this month. Read on for our curated list of all things to do around the city this April!
Manhattan
Black Comic Book Festival
Friday, April 26th & Saturday, April 27th | 10AM – 7PM
This year’s Black Comic Book Festival marks 12 years of bringing together animators, comic book fans, families, illustrators, independent publishers, and writers to celebrate Black comic books and graphic novels, at Harlem’s Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture. Explore workshops, live entertainment, cosplay, and more!
Earthfest at the American Museum of Natural History
Saturday, April 27th | 10AM – 4PM
The American Museum of Natural History hosts a full day of family-friendly activities and performances devoted to sustainability and preservation of our natural resources.
Open Streets: Car-Free Earth Day
Saturday, April 20th | 10AM – 4PM
New York City is gearing up for its biggest day of Open Streets ever, planning to shut down a record number of roads to cars as part of Earth Day celebrations. Streets and plazas across all five boroughs will be transformed into pedestrian-friendly zones, featuring music, art, and more.
Brooklyn
Celebrate Eid al-Fitr at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum
Sunday, April 14th | 11AM – 4PM
Brooklyn Children’s Museum invites families to learn the story of Eid al-Fitr, enjoy hands-on activities, and celebrate cultural traditions from across the Muslim world with Council Member Shahana Hanif and various cultural partners, artists, and performers.
Arbor Day at the Audubon Center
Friday, April 26th | 12PM – 4PM
Commemorate Arbor Day at the Audubon Center in Prospect Park, and participate in nature activities. Learn about conservation efforts focused on Brooklyn’s last remaining forest!
Bronx
Woodlawn Family Fun Day
Saturday, April 20th | 1PM – 4PM
Enjoy a day filled with family-friendly activities, including live music, face painting, nature walks, games and more in Van Cortlandt Park.
Earth Day Weekend at Wave Hill
Friday, April 19th – Sunday, April 21st
All Day
Wave Hill in the Bronx always has family-friendly programming scheduled throughout the year, offering breathtaking views and natural beauty in the heart of NYC. This April, they’re hosting “Earth Day Weekend” with Earth-Day themed activities and the opening of three new art exhibitions.
Queens
Climate Arts Festival at Queens Botanical Garden
Saturday, April 27th | 11AM – 4PM
There is always something to do at Queens Botanical Garden! This Earth Month, they’re hosting a festival featuring art exhibits, music, interactive performances, tours, demonstrations, and more!
Apple Blossom Children’s Carnival at the Queens County Farm Museum
April 20th-21st and 27th-28th | 11AM – 6PM
Celebrate spring at the Queens County Farm Museum. This children’s carnival kicks off the farm’s special event season. Tilt-A-Whirl in the orchard and enjoy carnival rides, hayrides, midway games, and visit with their farm animals!
Staten Island
Snug Harbor: Earth Day Celebration
Saturday, April 20th | 10AM – 2:30PM
Celebrate Earth Day at Snug Harbor with a series of sustainability-focused activities including wetlands clean-up, tree care workshops, compost learning sessions, and a tree identification scavenger hunt.
Willowbrook Park ‘Carousel for all Children’
Near the Eton entrance of Willowbrook Park you’ll find the Carousel for All Children, created specifically for kids of all abilities and operating from May to October. Painted panels and famous Staten Island locales also decorate the carousel.
Long Island
Tulip Festival at Waterdrinker
Tulips Blooming April 12th – May 10th
Immerse yourself in the vibrant colors of spring at Waterdrinker Family Farm & Garden’s Tulip Festival, featuring blooming tulips and other spring bulbs, along with photo-ops, mini golf, and barnyard animals.
Celebrate Holi: Festival of Colors at LICM
Sunday, April 14th | 11AM – 4:00PM
Join LICM in Garden City to celebrate Holi, the Festival of Colors, marking the end of winter and the arrival of the colorful spring season.
Kite Festival At Robert Moses
Saturday, April 20th | 10AM – 5PM
The Kite Festival hosted by the North Babylon Chamber of Commerce at Robert Moses State Park. Bring or buy your kite and join in on the flying fun, accompanied by professional kite flying shows, food vendors, and local merchandise.
New Jersey
Holland Ridge Farms “U-Pick Tulips”
Saturday, April 6th – Sunday, April 21st
Explore a stunning display of over 8 million tulips at Holland Ridge Farm, enjoy activities like tulip picking, food trucks, and live music!
Kids Poetry Night in Montclair
Sunday, April 21st | 2PM
Join Watchung Booksellers in The Kids’ Room in celebrating national poetry month! All young readers are welcome to submit original work, or read from poetry books in-store.
Westchester
Muscoot Farm
Muscoot Farm in Katonah, New York is a family-friendly public park offering history, agriculture, and wildlife experiences. Families can interact with animals, explore historic buildings, attend events and workshops, hike scenic trails, and enjoy seasonal activities.
Greater Ossining Earth Day Festival
Saturday, April 20th | 10AM – 5PM
Celebrate Earth Day in Louis Engel Waterfront Park by the Hudson River and learn how to reduce your impact on the environment. Enjoy live music, local food and drinks, eco-demonstrations, a kids’ activity zone, and much more.
Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival in Hastings-on-Hudson:
Saturday, April 20th | 12PM – 3PM
The Sakura Matsuri Cherry Blossom Festival in Hastings-on-Hudson’s Villard Pocket Park features Japanese music and martial arts performances, origami, calligraphy activities, and refreshments!
